 Our interpid explorers wait at the Florence Lake store and boat ramp for a ride across the lake.  The ferry is run by the folks from the Muir Trail Ranch.   It takes us 4 1/2 miles across the lake  to a landing at the foot of the  canyon leading up to Evolution Valley.     The canyon can be seen at the far side of the lake, sloping up to the left.   Very far off in the distance, through the notch carved by the canyon, you can see McGee peak.    The other  two prominent peaks to the right of it are Ward Mountain and Mt. Shinn.
